Welcome to MHABJ and The Island House Program

Mental Health America of Beaufort/Jasper and the Island House program serve adults who live with a mental health diagnosis and for whom recovery is a goal. Eligible clients must reside in either Beaufort or Jasper counties. The mission of MHABJ and the Island House program is to promote wellness and support to those with mental illness through advocacy, education, research, and service.

The organization is committed to work that promotes mental health, prevents mental disorders, and offers continuous improvement services that center on enhancing the lives of the persons served.

MHABJ has been recognized by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) with an award of accreditation through 2023. CARF is an international body whose mission is to promote quality, value, and optimal outcomes that center on enhancing the lives of persons served. A CARF award represents the highest level of accreditation that can be given to an organization. CARF standards represent industry tested best practices in areas include structure, person-centered services, performance measurement, quality management, technology, financial management, and human resources.

The Island House program has operated continuously since 1976. Island House provides a structured program of services led by credentialed staff and peers for adults who have behavioral health treatment goals that can be achieved in a supported environment. The program operates Monday through Friday from 8 AM until 4 PM. Please call 843-757-8650 to speak directly with a staff member.

Clinical Director is a Psychiatrist and Licensed Professional of the Healing Arts (LPHA)
Clients are followed by the Clinical Director and seen every other month
Staff RN follows and is on-site
Diagnostic Assessment is performed at intake by a Licensed Medical Social Worker
Every client is supported by an Individual Plan of Care
Nutritious lunch is provided every day

Enrolling

Must be at least 18 years old

Have a diagnosed serious and persistent mental health disorder (SPMI.)

Clients can self-refer, be referred by their doctor, a family member, or a community agency

MHABJ accepts South Carolina Medicaid and self-pay

Scholarships may be available

Requirements

Medication compliance

Participate in a Diagnostic Assessment (DA) performed by a MHABJ clinician

Active, cooperation participation with staff and peers

Commit to attend minimally two times per week
